The Bailey family has yet another high-end football player in Brayden Bailey, the son of legendary University of Georgia player Champ Bailey.
Bailey, who is entering his sophomore season, is already a high-end football recruit built very similarly to his father.
The Bailey family is one of the most highly decorated athletic families in state history. Brayden Bailey’s uncle, Boss Bailey, is a former Georgia star linebacker who was a two-time All-SEC player and a first-team All-American his senior year. He was a second-round draft pick by the Lions and spent seven years in the league. His son, Kadin Bailey, was a three-star linebacker who played at Jefferson. He started his college career with Syracuse but is now with Eastern Michigan.
The most notable member of the Bailey family up to this point, however, is Champ Bailey. Champ is one of the most dominant cornerbacks to have ever played the game. His high school career at Charlton County was dominant enough to make him a member of the inaugural class of the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame. His college career was more of the same, as he was named a two-time first-team All-SEC selection and a Consensus All-American in 1998, which led to his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. He was the seventh overall draft pick in 1999, and he did not disappoint, becoming a three-time first-team and four-time second-team All-Pro, and ultimately being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Brayden Bailey is very similar to his father in many ways. Size-wise, they both stand between 5-foot-11 and 6-foot. They are both very physical defensive backs. They excel in man coverage but also have the ability to play in zone. While the younger Bailey is still very raw as a prospect, it’s easy to see why schools are already looking at him. He already has all the traits coaches love to see, and he has three years, plus a father who knows how to get the most out of him.
On the recruiting trail, he already has three Division I offers: two Group of Five offers from Southern Miss and Georgia State, and one Power Five offer from Deion Sanders and Colorado. However, those aren’t the only schools looking hard at him, programs like Georgia Tech and Florida have already shown major interest, though they have not extended offers yet, and others will join in soon.
