DAILY DIVE: Tri-Cities hires former Pebblebrook head coach Michael Woolridge

Former Pebblebrook, South Atlanta and Hardaway head coach Michael Woolridge has been hired to be the new head football coach at Tri-Cities and will replace Rodney Hackney. Coach Woolridge spent two seasons at Pebblebrook and led the Falcons to a 8-13 overall record and 6-5 finish last year that earned the team a spot in the Class 6A state playoffs. Under coach Hackney, Tri-Cities finished last season with a 6-4 overall record and earned the No. 3 seed out of Region 4-5A. It was announced last month that coach Hackney would not be returning to his position at Tri-Cities and he left after just two seasons. Tri-Cities improved from a 2-8 campaign in 2023 to a 6-4 finish last season that gave the Bulldogs their first-playoff appearance since 2012 and first winning season since the 2015 season.

“Tri-Cities has everything: an outstanding administration, a strong community support and dedicated student-athletes working hard to be the best that they can be on and off the field,” Woolridge said in an email. “The tremendous opportunity to be in the Fulton County School District, with its commitment to achieving excellence, on and off the field, is exciting to say the least. Importantly, I’m also thankful to have led Pebblebrook and for what we achieved. I wish Da’Brook continued great success.”

Coach Wooldridge will be going into his 19th season of coaching and has built a strong resume that he is taking to the Bulldogs program. While leading the Hardaway program from 2016-20, Coach Woolridge, who is a Hardaway alum, led the Hawks to three-straight playoff appearances that snapped a 10-year postseason drought. While at South Atlanta, he led the Hornets to a 22-3 record and two region titles in two seasons.

It was announced on Jan. 23 that Woolridge was not planning on returning to Pebblebrook next season and the Falcons are still looking to hire the replacement for Woolridge.
