Douglas County comes into 2025 with one of the top rosters in the state. Led by a roster as deep as they come, the Tigers are ready to take home the 6A championship.
At the helm of its top roster is 3-star quarterback Mike Johnson.
Johnson recently transferred to the Tigers from Dutchtown, where he has played the past few seasons. Johnson totaled about 2700 yards and 24 touchdowns through the air last season. He added another 534 yards and ten touchdowns on the ground.
He turned into a top recruit and many schools were looking towards the 2026 signal-caller.
On Tuesday, Johnson announced that he was taking his talents to Salt Lake City to play for the Utah Utes.
He visited Utah this past weekend, and had nothing but great things to say about it.
“It was a great experience. Me and My Family had a really good time and they did not just show love towards me, but my family as well. They are a real culture and real family people so that made our trip much better,” Johnson told Score Atlanta’s Wesley Powell.
Johnson also spoke highly of his relationship with quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer.
“Me and coach Detmer were kind of building a relationship before my official visit, but when we got there everyone was family from the start.”
Utah went 5-7 in its first season in the Big 12 last season.
Johnson joins Utah’s 2026 class that now has a total of five commits.
In his final season of high school ball, Johnson is looking for nothing less than a State Championship with Douglas County.
Douglas County will begin its 2025 season in the Corky Kell/Dave Hunter Classic against North Gwinnett live on Peachtree Sports Network and Score Atlanta.
