Every year since 1992, the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic has kicked off high school football season in one of the best high school football events in the nation. The four-day, 11-game event hosts its final day at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, offering a professional-caliber experience for up-and-coming athletes.
The athletes, however, are not the only ones who get an opportunity to take the field.
For the past six years, Score Atlanta has partnered with the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta (DSAA) to provide a memorable and inclusive experience at the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic. Members of the community are invited to the four games in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with complimentary tickets, on Saturday, August 16, and will have the opportunity to walk on the field and help flip the coin for the Brookwood vs. Houston County game at 1:00 p.m.
“We have worked really hard to integrate individuals with Down Syndrome into one of Atlanta’s premier high school sports events in an extremely memorable way,” the president of the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta, Lindsey Lubel, stated.
“This partnership allows members of the Down Syndrome community to walk onto the Mercedes-Benz Stadium football field and help flip the coin, which is a beautiful and impactful way to promote inclusion, visibility and community support.”
Participating in an event like this creates lasting memories for all involved. Many notable athletes have played in the Classic, including 2025 NFL No. 2 overall pick and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. As Lubel puts it, “It is exhilarating to witness the interaction between the football players and the Down syndrome community.”
The Classic is not just a place for players to shine, but rather an event that brings the community together.
To attend, please RSVP by Wednesday, August 13th, to Lindsey.rosenberg@dsaatl.org or by phone at (404) 246-7432.
