Morgan County looking to make a run at its first title

The Morgan County baseball program has started the 2025 season off hot, winning 10 of its first 12 games and currently holding an 8-0 record against in-state opponents. The Bulldogs are finally in a region where they are undoubtedly one of, if not the, favorites to win Region 2.

Even though Rutland has yet to lose a game, Morgan County has played a much tougher schedule and is expected to be the better team. In past years, the Bulldogs were stuck in the same region as two-time defending champion Harlem, forcing Morgan County to go on the road in the playoffs in the second round , a round they have not advanced past since the 2018 season when they reached the semifinals. This year, they are looking for their first championship.

Additionally, 2A has no defending champions in the classification. Of the teams currently ranked in the top 10, none have won a championship in the past 10 years. Morgan County is currently ranked as the No. 1 team in 2A.

The other teams competing for the state title include Pierce County, which is currently 8-3 and coming off a second-round playoff appearance last year. Appling County has had a slow start to the season but is the defending 2A runner-up and has consistently been one of the top teams in the class. Rockmart is another team that has been stuck behind programs like North Cobb Christian in recent years, including a loss in the semifinals to the Eagles last year. However, this season, they are once again off to a hot start and no longer have to contend with private schools. They are currently 8-3 and are expected to win their region, even over North Cobb Christian. Ringgold is another team trying to make a run at the title. While the team is currently just 6-4, they have secured some major wins, including a victory over one of the top 3A schools in Pickens.
