TJ Umenyiora commits to Michigan State

Son of two-time Super Bowl champion Osi Umenyiora has announced that he will be committing to Michigan State.

TJ Umenyiora is a 3-star defensive back recruit in the 2026 class and had over 30 schools to choose from. He ultimately decided to take his talents up North and he loved what he saw from the Spartans.

“It just felt like a family environment, it felt like a place I could play my college career at. I also have a great relationship with my position coach Blue Adams.” TJ continued to rave about coach Adams, “When I sat down with coach Blue to talk about his plan to develop me, I was like I really believe and trust in his plan to develop me, and that is what made me decide to commit there.”

Michigan State went 5-7 in the team’s first season with new head coach Jonathan Smith and TJ loved the idea of playing for him.

“Coach Smith really wants to get to know you as a person, not just as a player,” he said.

Michigan State now holds the 25th ranked recruiting class in the country and ninth ranked class in the Big 10.

As for his senior season, TJ recently made the move to Blessed Trinity from Mount Paran halfway through last season and is already looking forward to his last season of high school ball.

“We are working on coming together as a team, we have a lot of guys returning.”

TJ and Blessed Trinity went to the 4A state semifinals last season and will look to make another run at it this season. They will open up this season at home by taking on against Tri-Cites on August 15th.
