In Class 6A, No. 1 ranked Etowah swept Cherokee last week 11-3, 6-4 and 5-2 to clinch the top seed in Region 5 and then finished its regular season slate with a sweep over Blessed Trinity (6-4, 8-0) and a 6-3 road win over Hillgrove to extend its win-streak to 8-straight games. Etowah’s only losses this season came to Houston County (5-1) on April 4 and an 8-4 loss to North Paulding in a series that the Eagles ultimately took two-of-three games in. No. 2 North Gwinnett swept Peachtree Ridge to earn the No. 1 seed in Region 7.
Class 5A No. 1 ranked Houston County closed out its season on a seven-game win-streak that includes a 5-1 road win over Class 6A No. 1 Etowah, a 9-6 road win over Class 6A No. 8 East Coweta, a three-game sweep over Class 5A No. 10 Lee County and home wins over Luella (12-1) and Richmond Hill (10-2). No. 2 Pope is also on a hot-streak heading into the postseason and has a 21-game win-streak after sweeping Region 6 with a perfect 21-0 record. Loganville dropped a 12-4 matchup to Class 3A’s Cherokee Bluff, but did not shift from No. 3 and closed out the year with a perfect 12-0 Region 8 mark.
Allatoona replaced Blessed Trinity at No. 1 in Class 4A to close the regular season. The Bucs finished the year on a 19-game win-streak and posted a 27-3 overall record with its only losses coming to Carrollton and Hillgrove on the road and a 5-3 loss to Cartersville in its three-game series against the Canes. Allatoona is a perfect 15-0 at home this season. Blessed Trinity fell to No. 3 after dropping its final five games of the regular season. This losing streak occurred outside of region play and the Titans were a perfect 12-0 this year in Region 6. This five-game skid also happened to come against a gauntlet of opponents—starting with Florida’s Jesuit (10-0) and IMG Academy (1-0), a 12-5 loss to Marist (12-5) and two losses to Etowah (6-4, 8-0). Marist’s win over Blessed Trinity was enough to send the War Eagles up to No. 2 in the poll. Additionally, Wayne County replaced Ware County at No. 6 after sweeping the Gators 3-0 (4-2, 5-4, 4-2) last week.
Cherokee Bluff moved up to No. 6 after earning a win over Loganville and Class 2A shifted with Appling County replacing East Jackson. In Class A Div. I, Elbert County moved up to No. 7 after defeating Banks County and Toombs County replaced Swainsboro after defeating the Tigers during their six-game losing streak. In Class A Div. II, Wilcox County replaced Crawford County at No. 7 after defeating the Eagles 14-11 to close out the regular season. In Class A-3A Private, Providence Christian debuted at No. 10 after capping a 24-5 season.
